The suburban town of Scarsdale, New York is conveniently located just 20 miles northeast of Manhattan. Grand Central Terminal can be reached by train in just over 30 minutes.

Scarsdale began as a farming community in the 1700s. However, with the establishment of the New York and Harlem Railroad in 1846 came an influx of residents commuting to New York City. The town has remained a commuter town ever since and has seen constant growth. By 2010, the population of Scarsdale numbered over 17,000.

The modern-day history of Scarsdale has included much controversy. In the 1950s a “Committee of Ten” launched accusations that a communist infiltration had taken place in the public schools. Although much publicity surrounded the case, Scarsdale denied any such communist activity and the matter was laid to rest. However, another controversy came about in 1961 when a former member of Judaism tried to escort a young lady during her debut at the Scarsdale Country Club. The debate led to the eventual decline in anti-semitic activity in the town.

Today, the town's suburban atmosphere allows convenience and comfortable living to dominate. More than 90 restaurants are found within Scarsdale. These include family-friendly options such as Candlelight Inn, NaMu Steakhouse, and Hurricane Grill & Wings, as well as choices for the refined palate such as Fig & Olive Westchester.

Family-friendly Scarsdale has further appeal when considering the incredibly low crime rate. In 2012 the crime rate was just 43.7 compared with a national average of 298.9. Violent crime in the area is extremely rare.

Lawyers, managers, and physicians make up a great deal of the workforce in Scarsdale. The majority of commuters travel 35 minutes or less to work every day.

Scarsdale is part of the Scarsdale Union Free School District. It is home to five elementary schools, the Scarsdale Middle School, and the Scarsdale High School. The high school has ranked among the nation's top 100 for math and science. The success rates are impressive with 98% of graduates continuing their education after high school. Notable alumni include American diplomat Richard Holbrooke, Shutterstock founder Jon Oringer, screenwriter Aaron Sorkin, and journalist Nina Totenberg.

For many, Scarsdale has been a formula for success due its impressive educational opportunities, convenience to New York, and family-friendly atmosphere.
